Coolhaus was started in Los Angeles in 2009 by Natasha Case who started baking cookies and making ice cream, and naming the ice cream sandwich combinations after famous architects and architectural movements. She handed them out to her peers at her job who found them to be tasty comic relief in spite of recent layoffs and discussion of further impending cutbacks. During this time she also met Freya Estreller who was helping her make the product behind the scenes, and was putting numbers to the concept as a business model. Coolhaus debuted at Coachella Valley Music Festival in 2009, where they towed their barely drive-able postal van to the concert grounds and setup to serve their product to an audience of 100,000. They built a loyal following over the festival weekend and returned to LA to an abundance of viral press, a rapidly building social media following, and an eager foodie audience.
Since then, Natasha and Freya have built a national fleet of trucks, including 3 trucks in LA and a storefront), 2 trucks and one cart in NYC, 2 trucks in Miami, FL and 2 trucks in Austin, TX. They are 200 markets in 13 states. Under Natasha and Freya's oversight, Coolhaus has become one of the leading innovative dessert companies. In the pipeline are other dessert items including hot chocolate, chocolate bars, a sweet and savory snack line, and more.
